Sherwins Named Family of the Year
Niceville’s Charles and Lisa Sherwin were named Florida State Council Family of the Year – 2016 at an awards ceremony held in Orlando on Sunday, May 29.
The couple and their five children were recognized for their contributions to their community and their church by the 54-thousand member chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
The entire family is very active in the religious education program at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville. Lisa is the coordinator for the parish’s K-5th grade program, providing guidance and support to more than a dozen teachers and aides and serves as a valuable consultant to the pastor and deacons on the religious education program.
All five children assist their mother in organizing and executing RE activities each Sunday. The family spent the summer months cleaning classrooms, organizing storage, replacing supplies and updating libraries for the RE program. The children are also active in the Christian Leadership Institute for the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee and the regional youth conferences.
During the parish’s Fall Festival, the family played the von Trapp family, performing Edelweiss from the Sound of Music.
